Flood Return Period

GeoTide calulates the flood return period in years from tidal data. Above - GeoTide Screen Shot shows the estimate of flood return period. In this particular location the return period is 200 years for a 3.124 meter high sea-defence. The vertical axis is the sea-defence height.

The flood return period is used in coastal zone planning (where it is also known as flood frequency) to assess the appropriate height of sea defences, the granting of building licences and for the provision of insurance of sea-side properties, coastal structures and facilities.

Such information can assist in satisfying coastal & shore-side planning applications (e.g. UK PPS25 & TAN15) and in meeting similar planning criteria world-wide.
